Obituary for Jean L Clawson

 

   Jean Louise Clawson, 74, of Green Mountain, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown. 

    Memorial services for Jean will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Green Mountain United Church of Christ in Green Mountain. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Animal Rescue League in Marshalltown. For more information or to send a condolence, please visit

    Jean Swanson was born on September 4, 1943 in Marshalltown to Lester and Helen Schaffer Swanson. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1961. Jean met Neal Nelson in 1989 and has been life partners since then. Jean had previously been employed as an office manager. She was a member in the Marshalltown Schools, Downtown Stroll, Garden Club, Green Mountain Church and was on the Fair Board where she was involved with many things. Jean enjoyed calling bingo at the fairgrounds, flowers and gardening and was an avid animal lover including her many horses (Rusty “Grandpa”), dogs, chickens and cats. 

    Jean is survived by her life partner of 28 years, Neal. Children: Jerry (Brenda) Starn of Marshalltown and Christine Suchak of Melbourne as well as five grandchildren, one great grandchild, her sister Julie Golding of Washington and her dogs; "Sammy The Wonder Dog" and Polar. 

    Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Helen and dog Rascal as well as many other pets.
