January 10, 1944 - February 6, 2020

 

    Jeanice A. Johnston, 76, of Marshalltown, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

    Memorial services for Jeanice will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.

     Fellowship and refreshments will follow the service.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either the Iowa River Hospice Home or to Caring Center Inc.

     Jeanice Wirstlin was born on January 10, 1944 in Marshalltown to Earl and Dorothy Hala Wirstlin. Jeanice graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1961.

     She was united in marriage to David Johnston on December 1, 1962 in Marshalltown. David and Jeanice moved to Texas in 1978, living in Missouri City, Corpus Christi and Boerne. David passed away in January of 2008.

     Jeanice enjoyed her lifelong career as a legal secretary working for several law firms in Iowa and Texas. In 2011, Jeanice moved back to Iowa to enjoy her retirement years with family and lifelong friends. She enjoyed reading, traveling (especially visiting her children in Texas for several months out of the year), and was an avid George Strait fan.

     Jeanice is survived by her children: Barry (Sonya) Johnston and Stacy Johnston; grandchildren: Ashley (Brandon) Sutton, Christopher Johnston and Alexander (Ashley) Johnston. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Caleb and Elizabeth Sutton; siblings: Pam Jerome and Diane Shollenbarger as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

   Jeanice is preceded in death by her husband David and parents Earl and Dorothy.
