    LEGRAND -- Dan Wheater 57, of 302 E. Dawn St., LeGrand, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

   Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Chapel with the Rev. Bernard Grady of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, March 6 at the funeral home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  A memorial fund is being established.

   He was born on Jan. 25, 1943, in Marshalltown at the Old Mercy Hospital, the only son born to Harold "Swede" and Genevieve (White) Wheater.  He received his education in the Marshalltown Catholic Schools, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1961.  He later graduated from Upper Iowa University in Fayette in 1969.

  He married Linda Wolken on Dec. 20, 1970, at the Trinity Luthern Church in Dillon.  He taught and coached at the Freeport, Ill. and Solon Community Schools and later was sales representative and then manager for Kent Feeds and later BP Feeds.  He raised hogs and sheep and was formerly known for being "Coach Wheater" at LDF and East marshall Schools.  Dan was an avid sports fan and especially cheered on the Chicago Bears and LA Dodgers.  He loved all sports that the Iowa Hawkeyes were playing and above all, supported his home school, the East Marshall Mustangs.

   Surviving him are his loving wife of 29 years, Linda; a son, Scott Wheater of Johnston; a daughter, Jodi Wheater of Williamsburg; his uncle, Ed White of Marshalltown; and several friends.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Harlan Heil.<>
