James Petrie, 56

   James Petrie, 56, of 2861-A Reed Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.

   Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home with Bobby Shomo, chaplain of the Iowa River Hospice officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memoral Gardens.  Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  to receive friends.  A memorial fund is being established.

   Born on April 13, 1943, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Samuel and Eva (Strong) Petrie.  He received his education in the area of his birth, graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1961.  After this time he attended Marshalltown Community College.

   Jim was marred to Pat and they have resided their entire married lives in Marshalltown where he was employed with Fisher Controls for the past 36 years.  He also was owner of Mid America Aviary and P and J Air Purification.

   An avid bird lover, he was a member of the Mid-America Caged Bird Society.

   Surviving him are his wife Pat; five children, Jack (Kristi) Petrie of rural Haverhill, Jim (Renee) Petrie of Waverly, Lynn (Mrs. Matt) Conley of Marshalltown, Robert (Angie) of rural Laurel and Tina (Mrs. Jeff Kasal) of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren, Vanessa Conley, Josh Conley, Elizabeth Petrie, Traci Petrie, Katie Petrie, Bobby Petrie and Austin Kasal; his father Sam Petrie of rural Albion; a brother Harvey (Sharon) Petrie of Cedar Rapids; a sister Eva (Mrs. Jack Schrafel) of rural Albion; and a sister-in-law Sandy Petrie of Des Moines.

   He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Larry.
