  John C. Benson, 36, of 3404 Merritt Road, died at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital Monday afternoon after a lengthy illness of cancer.

  Born April 12, 1943, in Glendale, Calif., he was the son of Carroll (Bennie) E. and Margaret H. Wilson Benson.  He received his education in the Marshalltown Public Schools and was graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1961.

  On April 11, 1970, in Marshalltown he was married to Sandra Phillips and they have resided in Marshalltown where he had been employed by Fisher Controls.

   Mr. Benson served in the U.S. Navy as a flight engineer from 1962 to 1966.

   He was a member of the Liscomb Church of Christ and VFW, Harry C. Harter Post 839.

   Surviving are his wife Sandra, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll (Bennie) Benson of Marshalltown; one sister, Susan (Mrs. James) Weaver of Kingsport, Tenn., and one nephew.

   Services will be from the Liscomb Church of Christ at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Helmer Peterson, pastor, in charge.  Military honors in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens will be handled by the Harry C. Harter Post 839 of the VFW.  Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Friday.
