"Friends, it is with a heavy heart and lump in my throat that I must tell you that my brother, Bill, did not survive the massive stroke that hit him on Sunday, his 79th birthday. He passed into the hands of the Lord on the 16th. We have no doubt that he will be joining his son Chad, our parents, brother Tom, and sister Judi, in Heaven. Bill was my buddy, partner in many adventures and someone who always had my back as were were growing up. Bill was a gregarious, people and nature loving man who was an excellent and versatile journalist and friend to many. Please pray for his wife, Lisa, and daughter, Jennifer, who will need God’s help to get through the difficult days ahead. We all loved Bill and will forever be grateful for having him in our lives."

Bill is already missed. His sense of humor and thoughtfulness were always present throughout high school and whenever we met at class parties. He is missed! I join our class in sending sympathy to his family and friends.

I will miss Bill and his clever and charming Christmas letter--his humor shows through!  I last saw him in Hartford, CT, in 2012(?) or so.  He was flying out from a conference, got in touch, and I drove up from New Haven and met him for dinner.  My condolences to his wife and family.  Dee Dee (Wolfe) Rogers

Such a fun spirit,at all times, that describes, Bill.  He will be missed, by all of the members, of the MHS Class of 1961. I met Bill's nephew, at a museum, in Fort Meyers, Florida this past Christmas and it was a fun surprise for us, former Iowa folks. Bill and Larry were pleased too.  Sending my deepest sympathy, to his family. Keeping you all close, in prayer.  Marilyn Thomas Mathews
