Dennis Lane

       Dennis Joe “Shady” Lane, 75

Of Marshalltown passed away peacefully on January 5, 2019.  Shady was born on December 11, 1943 to the late Robert and Shirlee (Ferguson) Lane in Marshalltown and was a 1961 graduate of Marshalltown High School.  After graduation, Shady was employed by Fisher Controls on Governor Road for forty years.

Shady married Susan Horn on December 11, 1964 and created a home in Marshalltown where they raised Brian Joe and Bradley Alan.  He loved his friends as he loved his family and many memories were had at the Lane Family Farm. There were many times spent camping, fishing, and golfing with his cronies and he always made sure all were well taken care of adhering to the motto “how about one more and we will all go”. He was a jokester, a prankster, and one of the most loyal individuals anyone had the opportunity to know. His grandchildren, Kreyton, Holden, Carter, Addie, and Lula loved his Christmases, tolerated his pranks, journeyed with him to The Spot and The Old Timer, and were honored to see his zest for life and commitment to his friends. To know him was to love him, and he never met a stranger. All will miss him, but know his spirit and his legacy will live on in the countless memories shared.

Shady is survived by his children, Brian (Amy) Lane and Brad (Tani) Lane;  grandchildren Kreyton, Carter, Lula, Holden, and Addie; his partner of 18yrs. Donna Reece, brother Randy (LeEtte) Lane, and aunt Bonnie Sutherland. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Shirley, and his loyal crew Mike Kelly, John Baker, Donnie Clark, Louis Savage, John Edwinson and Harrison (Duck) Bailey.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 4-6:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at the Old Timer Tavern on Friday starting at 1:00 pm, toasting at 1:30 to a life well-lived and a sharing of memories with family and friends to follow.
