Born Bonita Sue Bueghly on April 28, 1943 in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Clarence and Vivian (Smith) Bueghly. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1961, she went on to receive her nursing certification at Marshalltown Community College.

After meeting the love of her life, Bruce R. Johannsen through mutual friends, they were united in marriage on December 6, 1968 in Marshalltown. Together they made their home in the Gladbrook/Reinbeck area and raised their three children. Bonnie’s kindness and her passion for taking care of others made her both an exceptional nurse and mother. She worked several years as a labor and delivery nurse at Marshalltown hospital. After the birth of her children, she dedicated her life to staying at home and caring for her them. She loved supporting her family, never missing an event of her children and grandchildren. Later she went back to nursing, retiring from Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. Bonnie adored being outside and taking care of her acreage, especially tending to her flowers. She was very creative and enjoyed knitting, stamping and other crafts. Faith was important to Bonnie and she was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: John (Jodi) Johannsen, Amy (Patrick) White and Jacob (Kelle) Johannsen; grandchildren: Adam and Matt Johannsen, Allysen and Madison White and Emma and Isabelle Johannsen; her mother-in-law, June Johannsen; sisters-in-law: Joyce (Steve) Hutcheson and Sandy Johannsen and several nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, Bonnie is reunited with her beloved husband, Bruce; her parents, Clarence and Vivian; siblings: Barbara (Larry) Price and Robert Bueghly; brother-in-law, Keith Johannsen; sister-in-law, Sharon Uhde and father-in-law, Marvin Johannsen.

Though I have lost touch with Bonnie in later years, I have fond memories of playing high school girls basketball with her--on a church league at the Y in Marshalltown. What our team lacked in athletic skill, we made up for with our enthusiasm and positive outlook. My sympathy to her family, Janet Moore Koellner

My sympathy to Bonnie's family and friends following her passing.  Since knowing her from grade school it is not surprising that she dedicated her career to nursing and her family.  May she rest in peace.  Bob White
