DAVENPORT -- Harold "Hal" Rider, of Davenport, formerly of Blue Grass, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2003, in Davenport.

 

   Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Runge Mortuary Chapel.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the mortuary.  Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

 

  Hal was born June 16, 1943, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Edward and Hazel (Wood) Rider.  He was united in marriage to Cher Hansen, May 9, 1964, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  She preceded him in death March 30, 2002 in Blue Grass.

 

   Along with his wife Cher, Hal was owner of ReMax Suburban in Blue Grass.  He was a longtime member of the Davenport Men's Bowling League and bowled his first sanctioned 300 game, October 31, 1994.

 

   He was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he was actively involved with helping others and gave of himself to those in need.  Hal celebrated his 1 year of sobriety, September 10, 2003.

 

   Over the years, Hal's hobbies included painting (landscapes and nature), traveling, computers, pinewood derby racecars, camping and the CB radio.

 

   Survivors include: son, Tim Rider of Davenport; daughter and partner, Chris Rider and Karen Eichler of Iowa City, Iowa; father, Edward Rider of Mission, Texas; daughter-in-law, Jo Rider of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and many special friends of AA.

   He was preceded in death by his wife and mother, Hazel (May 18, 2003) and his faithful companion Tawney.
