Karen Anne Wilcox Camp

September 7, 1943 - January 1, 2022

Karen Anne Wilcox Camp, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 1, 2022. Born on September 7, 1943, in Jefferson, IA to Pauline H. and Harold F. Wilcox.

She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1961 and then later from AIB in Des Moines. She married Jesse L. Camp on June 19, 1967, and started their life together in Des Moines. They eventually settled in Maxwell, IA, where they raised three children, Wes, Valarie and Matt.

Every career path Karen took seemed to always lead to taking care of others while making lifelong friends. Karen volunteered on the Maxwell Fire Department and was a Maxwell First Responder for many years. Throughout her life she was always putting others first with her caring heart. Her quick wit and welcoming personality made everyone feel at home.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Karen was her grandchildren’s number one fan. She was always cheering them on at their various sporting events, dance performances or Facetiming them to catch up and make memories.

Karen is survived by her children: Wes (Carolyn) Camp, Valarie (Chris) Sanders and Matthew (Molly) Camp; nine grandchildren: Jake, Katie, Mackenzie, Jaden, Ryker, Mabry, Kyner, Ketyn, and Maiya; brother, Kent (Radean) Wilcox; sister-in-law, Rose (Berry) Moon; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members, all of whom will miss her love and contagious laughter.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jess; her parents, Pauline and Harold; an infant daughter, Rebecca; and her sister, Kay Wilcox.

Karen’s celebration of life will be held at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, IA) on Friday, January 7, 2022, from 5-7pm. The family encourages those attending to wear comfy clothes and fuzzy socks. The family would like to thank UnityPoint Hospice nurses and volunteers as well as the many friends there who made her time rewarding. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Maxwell Fire/EMS at 111 Main St., Maxwell, IA 50161.
